Hot places to visit when you’re in Perth…

For those of you looking for a getaway, cities can be unfamiliar, intimidating places. However, the city of Perth has the balance of work and play that will hit you just right. Some describe Perth as a Big Country Town, but its rapidly growing up.

Only thirty minutes west of the city, you can relax on some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia, and only thirty minutes east, you will find yourself wandering around the magnificent Swan Valley, immersed in some of the finest wineries in the country.

Yes, Perth is an isolated city – and we think that’s our strength. Adelaide is our closest neighbour–some 2000 KM away! And we like it that way! The east coast has its own mad pace, but Perth has a chilled, relaxed atmosphere that instantly sets you at ease. The people are friendly, the weather is fantastic and we love it here.

THE BEACHES

It’s no question, Perth has some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia. You can head down to any beach on the west coast, and you’ll soon forget all that working’ routine and stressful crazy world you left behind.

Sunny days, warm temperatures, the blue Indian Ocean, and not a speck of litter anywhere. Cottesloe, Scarborough and City Beach are just a few of our favorites but there are many more isolated and empty beaches around the city if you want to simply get away from it all.

Cottesloe has crystal clear and calm water set on a backdrop of white sand and grassy terraces. This area is also home to the annual Sculptures by the Sea, which showcases the talents of artists from across the globe, and attracts thousands of locals.

Scarborough Beach is the perfect location to watch the famous Western Australian sunset. Scarborough has become a vibrant and lively centre for party people and visitors over the last couple of years. It has a fun atmosphere and an array of great cafes, restaurants, and bars.

Just down the coast a few minutes from Scarborough is City Beach which boasts Odyssea and Hamptons Restaurants or you can go further south the try the wonderful Bib & Tucker menu. All have magnificent ocean views and the menus are sensational.

KINGS PARK and BOTANIC GARDEN

For years Kings Park has been Western Australia’s biggest tourist attraction. And at 400 hectares, is one of the world’s largest inner city parks. Kings Park is a huge green space within the city with many short walking trails leading through botanical gardens, offering spectacular panoramic views of Perth and the Swan River. Our Twilight Tour is a must for the beautiful city lights display.

It’s the perfect spot for people of all ages, very family friendly, and a great place for lunch, picnic or just a sit in the nearby cafe.

Fitness enthusiasts frequently challenge themselves to the 242 steps up and down the popular Jacobs Ladder and the park is also home to the very moving State War Memorial and the whispering wall that surrounds the eternal flame of remembrance.

Throughout summer you can catch a movie at the outdoor cinema. It’s an ideal setting for movie enthusiasts, get warm on a blanket or comfortably kick back on a beanbag underneath starry skies.

FREMANTLE

The lively historic and cultural port city which often becomes a great venue for a social gathering, or just a great place to go for the strip of alfresco style bars and restaurants.

With so much on offer its often hard to know where to start! Depending on the time of day, we recommend a casual stroll around the docks, jetty’s and fishing boat harbour to familiarize yourself with the pace and atmosphere of Freo!  Fremantles beautiful old buildings and architectural heritage is one of its great attractions so a walk into the main centre is a lot of fun and you’ll find all kinds of shopping available. The famous Fremantle Markets, offer hundreds of opportunities for souvenir shopping and cheap delicious snacks and are open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

At the market, you’ll find a huge variety of stalls offering everything from local fresh produce to homemade handbags, and hair pieces. Go, make a day of it and check out Little Creatures Brewery for a hearty pub lunch and some local Perth craft beers. If youre into a bit of history there are museums, art galleries and exhibitions on all year round.

Known to locals as Rotto, Rottnest Island is just 18 KM off the mainland (you can get over there by fast ferry in about 20 minutes on a good day,….enough time to put a beer away!). On the island, there are a few ways to get around. Many go straight for the bikes or you can catch a bus. The island is bigger than many imagine so unless you are fit and like hills and wind, the bus is the way to go. You get to see all the beautiful beaches and can hop on and off at over 15 beautiful island beach stops as they loop around the island every hour.

Whatever you choose, don’t forget your snorkel as Rottnest boasts crystal clear waters and some great drift snorkeling. But if you do forget, relax,… the main attraction still seems to be the furry little locals. Yes! We’re talking about the Quokkas! These cute marsupials are always keen to take a few snaps with eager tourists. Get your camera ready, people!
